Yet the truth is this: it is precisely because the world can never be perfect that we must pursue perfection; because order is hard-won that we must pursue order; and because life can fall into disarray at the slightest carelessness that we should learn to keep it well-organized. This age lacks the attitude and courage of the ancients — once we recognize the essence of nothingness, we collapse at the devil's feet. Since we cannot escape nothingness, the only way is to live in resistance against it. To hold fast to one's beliefs even when doomed to fail. Or else, take the other attitude: ignore the outcome, and take joy in the struggle itself. "Pursuit" is the manifestation of existential ontology, the struggle of life, the spirit of Sisyphus, and the primal energy that makes us human. Retreat, and we are nothing.
